GCF provided financial and technical support to better understand the South African giraffe population in Zambia’s south-west corner, in particular in and around Sioma Ngwezi and Mosi-au-Tunya National Parks.

Giraffe conservation efforts are implemented together with Elephant Connection and the Zambian Department of National Parks and Wildlife.

The development of the first ever National Giraffe Conservation Strategy and Action Plan, targeted GPS satellite tagging and population surveys are key programmes planned for Zambia.

Guided by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kavango-Zambezi (KAZA) Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA) initiative, a draft Regional Giraffe Conservation Strategy for the KAZA TFCA is currently under review by all Partner States.
