National & Regional Giraffe Conservation Strategies

To secure a future for giraffe in the wild, conservation initiatives need to be driven by African governments. To ensure such buy-in, GCF works closely with a wide range of partners on the development and implementation of national and regional giraffe conservation strategies and action plans.

Working collaboratively with many expert partners, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation is a science-based conservation organization that provides innovative approaches to saving giraffe in the wild.

Our partnerships reach from local communities to universities, from local NGOs to large international BINGOs, but our most important partners in each country and the wildlife or national park authorities of the respective Governments. While working at the grassroot level is important, conservation commitment has to start at the top.

As one of our key programs, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation supports African range states in developing national or cross-border regional giraffe conservation strategies and action plans.

Such strategy development begins with collaborative discussions, leading to targeted workshops involving national and international stakeholders where information on giraffe is collated, knowledge gaps are identified and threats addressed. With expert facilitation, conservation priorities and actions are compiled. While range state governments host these meetings, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation provides technical and financial support. All endorsed plans are available below after their launch.
